My work at Merck Research Labs exists at the interface between lab based, discovery research and clinical development. Within the Infectious Diseases, Vaccines & Immunology Therapeutic area in Translational Pharmacology I design and conduct clinical studies within two areas, discovery medicine and clinical pharmacology. Discovery medicine involves exploratory studies  designed to test specific hypotheses about host/pathogen interactions in humans in conjunction with a discovery research team, while clinical pharmacology trials involve taking investigational antibacterial and antiviral compounds from the lab into the clinic for the first time to conduct first-in-human, proof-of-concept studies. ​
